Bespoke Oak Conservatories for Your Home

Oak Framed Conservatory

Creating Your Oak Framed Conservatory

With nearly 30 years experience, working with oak is second nature to us. Here’s what you can expect from an oak conservatory, built by Timberpride.

  • Each oak frame is made from hand-selected timber that meets D30 or D40 grading standards, with D40 being the highest strength grade available for European oak in the UK.
  • Our oak conservatories are built to the highest standards, backed by certifications such as UKCA Marking, Q Mark, and Visual Strength Grading for Hardwoods.
  • We’re here to guide you through conservatory planning permission and building regulations approval, working with planning consultants and structural engineers to simplify compliance – including for listed buildings or properties in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
  • We offer flexible roofing options: a fully glazed roof to let in plenty of natural light, or a tiled or metal sheet insulated roof covering for a warm, cosy space that’s comfortable year-round.
  • Most importantly, we work closely with you to create a conservatory that meets your vision—whether it’s for a kitchen, sitting room, gym, or any other purpose you have in mind.

Locally Sourced Oak

We’re proud to source our oak from British forests. By keeping our timber close to home, we lower environmental impact, and ensure full traceability—we can even tell you where each tree grew.

With responsible forest management plans in place, we’re not just building conservatories, we’re supporting the health and future of our forests.

Our Process for Tailored Oak Conservatories

  1. With countless design options available for oak framed conservatories, our first priority is to consult with you, listening carefully and asking questions to understand your ideas.
  2. Once the project is ready to move forward, we’ll share a 3D CAD model with you, so you can clearly visualise the design.
  3. Our team carefully measures, cuts, and shapes each joint by hand, with a dedicated carpenter focused solely on your frame. As a personal touch, they’ll carve their initials in a hidden spot.
  4. When everything’s ready, we’ll come to your site and raise the frame, bringing your unique conservatory to life.

Extras To Consider When Installing An Oak Frame With Us

What is fixed face glazing?

We glaze our Oak frames using air-dried English oak cover boards to clamp glass in place, forming a weathertight seal by compressing closed cell memory foam between the oak and the glass. Having a small degree of flexibility in the method, the timber can move up to 6mm without causing bending stress on the glass.

The benefit of this glazing method is the complete coverage of the structural oak frame as this can never be made water tight without joinery grade cover boards to make a weather seal.

Sustainable Oak Construction

We take great pride in making the most of every remarkable oak tree that enters our yard, viewing it as a responsibility to honour its full potential. It’s a privilege to work with oak that has matured over generations, often planted by our great-great-grandparents.

Each log is carefully chosen for its specific role in our projects, with close attention to length, girth, and natural character. Beyond beams, we also produce boards from the outer sections, which, depending on grade, are used for cladding, joinery, or flooring—ensuring we maximise the yield from a tree that may be over 120 years old.

We are committed to zero waste. Only the bark and unusable pieces, such as small offcuts or flawed pockets, are chipped to fuel our biomass boiler, which heats our workshop, office, and kiln.

A Timber Framed Conservatory to Match Your Home

We had the pleasure of transforming Rosebank Barn into a beautiful oak-framed home. Using 200-year-old oak sourced from the Clinton Devon estate, we shaped each piece to fit perfectly with the property. We bring the same attention to detail to our conservatories, making sure they feel at home with your property.

“Now that the beams and structural alterations are in position, they look like part of the original design. They have been absorbed into the overall aesthetic of the building – nothing looks out of place, or an afterthought.”

Steve Silcock, BCMServ.

When Bob approached us for trusses, he didn’t realise that many oak frames are now machine-made. This results in rounded joints that don’t achieve the rigidity and rotational strength of a traditional square joint. We explained that our craftsmen hand-cut square joints, carefully fitting each one to avoid knots and splits, creating a frame that’s strong and durable long-term.

“It’s a great experience to be able to walk into your lovely oak offices, meet the owner, take a look behind the scenes and at your oak waiting to be hand crafted into your designs.”

Frequently Asked Questions

An oak frame conservatory is a versatile, glazed extension built with oak beams, often used as a dining area, sitting room, kitchen, or office.

Other similar glazed extensions might also be called an oak framed conservatory, including oak orangeries, oak sunrooms and oak garden rooms.

While each has its own design features, for instance a sunroom is usually south-facing, they all share the purpose of bringing light and a sense of the outdoors into your home. So, whether you call it a garden room, conservatory, sunroom, or orangery, the choice is yours based on your style and needs.

Yes, oak frame conservatories can be designed for year-round use. Modern insulation options, such as underfloor insulation, double or triple glazing, and high-quality roof insulation or glazing, mean it can be as warm as you want it to be. We spend more time considering how to keep them cool in the summer, which is achieved with good ventilation, blinds and photochromatic (solar control) glass which changes its reflectiveness the brighter the sun gets.

This is an important consideration for any conservatory build. Oak-framed conservatories typically allow significantly more natural light into the home. While a solid-roofed oak orangery may not let in as much light as a glass roof, opting for a lantern roof can help with this.

For external oak beams, we recommend applying raw linseed oil on a really hot day every couple of years. Over time, this will turn the oak charcoal grey (which we love) and will help to make it last for many years longer than naked oak. Internally, you will need to consider condensation, most people don’t want to oil internally so ventilation when the windows steam up is key. This is mostly an issue if you grow lots of plants in it, however.

This depends on the type of house, location and listed status, but a great many extensions and conservatories can be built under permitted development rights, and most people are surprised how large a structure they can build without planning permission. If planning permission is required (a simple discussion with a good planning consultant will inform you of this) the planners are not usually opposed to them as they will rarely be two stories high or change the roof line of the house.
